Road Trip to Malacca.
Left for 2nd link at 5.30am hoping to beat the jam but there are more kiasu people than us. In the end we were stucked at both customs for 2 hours. Think the TP over there are having major ops cause we encountered 2 road block on the way. When we went past the first road block, I jokingly told Kennie to take a pic of me if I was summon at the next road block. True enough, I was caught speeding at the next road block. Sigh... was fine RM$xx. But the feeling of speeding is really very shiok. My lau pok car can go up to 150+KM.
Jam at the causeway
Nice Nasi Lemak at 1 of the reast area
Reached Malacca Town at around 10 and got lost a bit. Because of the jam, we had to adjust our itinerary a bit. First stop, we had chicken rice at Chung Wah Chicken Rice at the entrance of Jonker St. The place is already full house when we reached and queue started to form while we were enjoying the food. Think most of their customers including us just come here because of the rice as it looks like a ping pong ball. Beside that I don't really see any reason why it's so fantastic. The chicken was very hard, rice a bit soggy and chilli sauce is quite average.
Next we explore deeper into Jonker St for a second round of food and dessert at Dessert 88 which is known as Museum Cafe. It is named as Museum Cafe as one can find uncountable collections and antiques everywhere inside the cafe. Their signature dish is their different types of laksa, nasi lemak and chendol. This mark the start of the marathon to search for chendol this trip. The chendol here is the best. The green cendol jelly was silky-smooth and come with a nice bite while the red bean was big and not too sweet. Not forgetting the thick Gula Melaka that bring up the taste of the authentic chendol that we have ever eat in Sg.
After a satisfying lunch, we recce the rest of the Jonker St and proceeded to check in at Hotel 906. We highlighly recommend this hotel cause it's really very cheap. Around $60 for a double and a single sized bed including Bf. No deposit is required. Either book via phone, their website or email. Do not expect 4/5 stars facilities but it satisfy the basic requirement of a hotel with friendly staff and clean room. Slack a while in our room before proceeding back to the main Town area.
Nonya Baba Muesum. Supposed to be in our itinerary but we were late for the conducted tour but anyway, it doesn't look interesting.
San Su Gong - Shop that sells local goodies
Open air car park for hotel guests.
Round 2 of the chendol marathon. It was a great disapointment. Actually we tried this a few years back with negative experience but we decided to give it another chance this time. The coconut milk is diluted and they are too stingy with the Gula Melaka. This stall is non other than the infamous Clock Tower Chendol opposite the Christ Church Building.
Some sight seeing and went shopping at Dataran Pahlawan Mall and Mahkota Parade. Didn't really enjoy the shopping cause our main motive this trip is food, food and just food. To cut short, cause no budget to shop. haha. Another round of makan at Newton Food Centre. It's just like our food court but without air-con with stalls of food.
Famous stall selling Popiah but it's too sweet to our liking
Went back to Jonker St and had authentic Peranakan Food for dinner. The decoration makes us feel like we had travelled back to the past to a Nonya Baba family. Food was nice and cheap. Spend less than $30 for such delicious Peranakan food.
Kangkong Belachan
Prawn Lemak
Ayam Buah Keluak
Sambal Belachan. $1.50 for this
Went shopping at the weekend night market at Jonker St. Though it's definitely bigger and there's much more varieties compared to our boring pasar malam but the things there didn't really excite us much. Retired back to our hotel after walking a while. Slept early as we woke up very early this morning.
Setting up the night market
Kennie's supper. Sweet Potatoe dessert
