Our first stop. BF at the nearest rest area.
Reached Malacca at around 10. Parked our car at Hotel Equatorial (the hotel that we will be staying tonight) a bit to do some shopping at Dataran Pahlawan along the way.
Our lunch at Restoran Perankan. Love their perankan food and the deco here. But was a bit disappointed this time as the food is not hot (I love piping hot food) as the fan is blowing at our direction. Cold food affect the taste of the food.
Ayam Buah Keluak (RM11). Kennie loves their Buah Keluak Chinchalok omelette (RM7)
Sambai Sotong with Petai (RM10) Udang Lemak Nana (RM12) Salted Vege and Duck Soup (RM8)
Total cost for the meal (RM55) It's cam whoring time after lunch.
The Bride Groom carring his Bride
Continued for our favourite Chendol at Jonker 88. The chendol here is the best of the best and it's very photogenic. Hehe
Then we checked in at Hotel Equatorial. Apart from the good location, I really cannot think of another reason for staying here. The furniture and deco looks so old and the carpet is also very dirty and sticky. Which other 4 or 5 stars hotel would use those big box TV? Guess it's only this.
Continued our shopping spree. Kennie and the kids can shop basically everywhere in the world grapping everything that caught their eyes. Haha.. I'm being exaggerating. Anyway I'm also 1 of the culprits. Buying quite a no. of T-shirts. The clothing here is cheap.
Here came the finale for the day. Dinner at Portuguese Settlement. With the help of the GPS, we locate this place with ease. Melaka is not just famous for their chicken rice ball, chendol and peranakan food but Portuguese food as well.
A bit of the history about the Portuguese Settlement. When the Portuguese conquered Malacca, a numerous number of its soldiers married the local women and made Malacca their new home. Thereafter they live along the coast as fishermen. Till now, the descendents of the Portuguese still live in settlements such as Jjong Pasir. They number only about a thousand or so, and the older generation is still able to converse in Creole Portuguese, called Papia Kristang.
Love the view of this place with the calm sea and beautiful scenery around. When we arrived, stall owners from the different stalls advances to ask and recommend their stall to us. We politely turned them down and walked towards the seaside. There's 1 persisitent owner who followed us and keep asking us to try their food. He's a bit irriatating but since he meant no harm, we did not pay much attention to him.
Cam whoring at the seaside before looking for a nice stall for dinner. As I couldnt remember which is the recommended stalls (there's a total of 10 stalls build side to side to each other), we walked from 1 end to the end a few times hoping that I can remember which is the die die must try and which is the one to avoid.
In the end, we didn't try any of them as we were worried that we will choose the wrong one. Ended having dinner at Restoran De Lisbon which is just directly behind the 10 stalls. Those restaurants behind the 10 stalls seem more authentic but business is not that good. Guess the good business is due to the touting and persistency of those stall owners.
We were glad that we have made the correct choice. The food here is damn good and even when I'm typing this post, my saliva is drooling. I hope I can be back here again for their authentic portuguese cusine.
nice nice Otah (RM14)
Black Pepper Crab (RM35) Devil Curry (RM16)
I'm not a brinjal fan but I ate quite a lot. So you shd know how good it is Portuguese Baked Fish (RM35)
Nice chiili and the fish is very fresh
Cost of the meal (RM111)
There's also this famous mango juice stall at the far left of the 10 stalls and they even have their own website. Think they used those unripe green mango, yellow mango and sour plum blended together. It's refreshing after drinking it. Something special as we have never tried it before.
Pic of the 10 stalls
Back for some shopping. Wanted to go to the pasar malam but was too tired. Couldn't even open my eyes. V tired as I slept very late night yest, woke up very early this morning and the long journey here has exhausted me.
