Taipei Trip - Day 2

Din Tai Fung and Monster ice
Taipei 101
NYNY
Wu Fen Pu
Raohe Night Market

Supposed to go to Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall but it was drizzling in the morning so we adjusted our itinerary. Went to the Din Tai Fung instead. It's quite a long walk from Zhong Xiao Xin Sheng MRT station. Was there around 11 and the place was already quite packed. The food is better than the outlets in S'pore but it just a bit better imo. The place was super crowded when we finished our meal. Don't really know why the craze over it.

Outside DTF. Many ppl are waiting outside. Luckily we came early

Monster ice is just around the corner of DTF and they sell ice with fresh fruits not like the cocktail ice in S'pore. Actually Kennie wanted to visit Monster ice again but due to the ulu-ness, we didnt go back.

This mix fruits ice is quite ex. NT160. Around $8 SGD

Taipei 101. The tallest building in the world. Taipei 101 was named "Taipei 101" because the building is in Taipei and contains 101 floors. It's just another high class shopping centre in Taipei. Didnt go to the observation deck as the view wasn't that nice as it was raining and it's not very worth to pay NT$320 just to go up.

Part of Taipei 101 was covered by cloud

Day View of 101

Inside 101. Just like our Taka with branded stuff.

Finally can take a pic of the whole 101

Next we went to NYNY which is very near 101. This place is famous for its Statue of Liberty and Mister Donut. At first I thought there's only 1 Mister Donut in Taipei but I was wrong, we can find it basically everywhere. So I don't quite understand why people are flooding the outlet in NYNY. But their donuts are really good. There's lots of varieties to choose from.

We took the free shuttle bus from 101 to Taipei Cityhall and took a train to Wufenpu (fashion wholesale centre) which is at Houshanpi station. No pic to see cause it's like Shilin Night Market but with more shopping lanes. The clothes there are quite cheap and lots of designs to choose from. Kennie and the kids bought quite a lot of clothes there. Though the clothes there are cheap, we are not allowed to try the clothes.

We had dinner at a restaurant opposite WFP. The food that they sell might look quite simple but it's really very tasty. The thought of it now make me hungry.

We walked to the Train station (not MRT train) and crossed the bridge to Raohe Night Market. This Night Market is famous for the smelly toufu and Hu Jiao Bing (Pepper Biscuit). Basically this super market sell more food than another other things.

Famous Hu Jiao Bing

Didnt get a chance to try it as the queue was really very long

1 of the famous games in Night Market. The guns look exactly like a real one. Some shops even used M16. Taiwanese loves to play games.

Chou Chou Guo (Smelly pot)

The making of the Chou Chou Guo

close shot of the Chou Chou Guo. There's quite a lot of ingredients namely Smelly toufu, pig blood, vegetables, meat, beef bla bla bla.
Kennie and Videl enjoying the smelly toufu

Taipei Trip - Day 1

Dinner at Tamagoya - Egg Theme Restaurant
Ximending
Shilin Night Market

In Changi Airport

Reached Taipei at around 1+ pm. Waited quite long before the luggage arrived. Went to the Tourist counter to apply the Youth Travel pass for Kennie. This pass is actually for tourist and also for their locals between the age of 18 to 30 and there's discount in some restaurant and places of interest if the pass is shown before payment. Too bad, I didn't qualify for it.

In Freego Bus

Took a Freego bus from the airport to Hotel TS. The bus stopped right in front of the hotel. Cost NT240 for a round trip while the child fare is only NT70.

At the lobby. The lift is quite small but didnt take a pic of it.
2 Double Beds for 4 of us. The room is quite spacious..

tatami double bed

LCD TV with 100+ channel.
Toilet with massage shower system

The hotel room look quite presentable, there's even a LCD TV and a massage shower system.

Off we went to Ximending. he hotel is only around 3 mins walk to Ximending. Had dinner in Tamagoya, a egg theme restaurant.

Shopped in Ximending and find that the things sold there are quite expensive. It's like a bigger version of Far East shopping centre.

The famous XXL Fried Chicken. Tasted much better and bigger in size as compared to Sg version

The whole Shilin Night Market is super packed

Went to Shilin Market and the whole place was super crowded. Didnt really buy much there cause we were just checking out the price first. But anyway, there's really lots of food there.

Met Chris for lunch today. He gave us a treat cause he's gonna have 1 more crab on his shoulder from next mth onwards. We tried a Chinese restaurant at Railway mall. We had seafood roll, pork rib, brocoli with scallop and prawn, fried toufu and assam fishhead. The seafood roll is very nice. Proceeded to Clementi Arcade for ice cream.

Mum called and told me not to go Taiwan cause she heard that there's heavy rain and flood there. She became even more paranoid when I told her where I keep my insurance policy. Went to find her to calm her down. keke.

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

Nothing much to blog this few days as I was busy fine tuning my itinerary. Really very excited as we will be departing for Taipei in less than 2 days. Hope the weather will clear up this few days as it has been raining for quite heavily for the past weeks. Many areas were also flooded as a result.

Was quite angry with Veona on Mon as she has been bullying Videl. Was so angry with her that I didn't even want to talk to her. Think no point scolding her as she's quite immune to my scolding already. So tried a new tactic to see if it works. She had a long talk with Kennie and my mother in law. Hope she will change for the better.

She was quite a good gal on Tues but starts bullying Videl on Wed again. Sigh...

Sunday, June 10, 2007

Went to Maxwell Market for the raw fish porridge early in the mornig but the queue was extremely long. Gave up after queuing a while. Wanted to try another stall selling porridge but also need to wait for 45 mins. Sian 1/2. In the end just settle for something simple. But dont have much appetite cause not very nice.

Slacking in Kennie's office again. Fetched the kids from Karin's house and send them to Ms Teh's house for Piano Lesson. Had Dinner with Mum and Uncle Huat as it's Uncle Huat's Bday.

This famous durian stall is actually at the big carpark at Dempsey Road. There's a few pubs and restaurants around there but have never got a chance to visit any of them

Customers crowding around him. saliva dripping while waiting

So many durians. If only I can buy the whole stall back. Yummy Yummy,

Went to Dempsey Road for durians. Got to eat the durians after waiting for a year. The queue was extremely long. It spoiled everyone's mood when the summon guy came. Think he's from the Recce during his NS time. He quitely sneaked to the car and just summon them. He was not even in his uniform but was wearing a black jacket to hide his identity. Quite lucky that I was not summoned.

The durians were really nice but nice things come with a hefty price as well. Cost $120+ for 4 durians. At first, I thought it's just around $70. Got a shock after he told me the amount. But it's still worth it cause normally I don't take durian from those normal stall. I only eat the best durians.

Saturday, June 9, 2007

Went to Orchard for the GSS hoping to get some shopping mood for the Taiwan trip. Before we start the shopping spree, we had Nasi Lemak at Lucky Plaza. There's always a long queue during lunch hour. But the standard of the fried chicken kind of dropped as compared to previous visit. It's a bit dried and hard.

It's quite a fruitful day for us today. I bought a new Hp (Nokia 2626 Non camera phone) from M1 and changed my starhub plan to M1's. It's gold in color and really look very obiang. We are not allowed to use a camera phone in my organization due to security reason.

As for Kennie, she bought a LV bag which she has been longing for quite sometime. Cost 1k plus, though it's not very ex as compared to other designs but it's still a waste of money.

Collected back my new spectacle. Look a bit funny. This is the first time I wear a plastic frame beside the one I wore for my BMT.

Went to Chevron to join the kids who were bowling there and had dinner at the cheap sushi restaurant (Japanese Village) at Jurong West.

Wanted to have durian at Dempsey Road but it's already sold out at 7+. The durian there is really very nice but it's quite ex.

In he end, we went to daily scoop ice cream again. Tried a few flavors today but don't really like the waffle. Granny liked the ice cream very much and even had 2 scoop of ice cream.

Unique coin phone in Clementi Arcade

Eat Eat Eat.. after the ice cream fest, we went to Bukit Timah FC for supper. haha.. what a gluttonous family.
